Relocating years of decomposing garbage into a more manageable environment has also created areas for new sporting fields. The fields will be state of the art and constructed to a similar standard to the fields at Myimbarr Wetlands.

Cleary Brothers won the contract to remove 150,000 cubic metres of material from the site adjacent to Boollwarroo Parade, which was used as a rubbish tip from the 1950s to the 1970s, and transfer it to a modern landfill site.

Being developed by Shellharbour City Council and Australand, Shell Cove will be a showpiece residential and tourism precinct. The boatharbour and marina for more than 300 boats will also eventually include an international hotel and shopping and commercial precinct, while there will be over 3,000 residential dwellings by the time Shell Cove is complete.
